Strategic management scholar Gary Hamel is renowned for his original concept of core competence (coined jointly with C.K. Prahalad and this seminal paper was cited more than 4,000 times on Google Scholar), but he is unfortunately discredited due to his publication of the hardback version of Leading the Revolution, in which he had written a very positive profile of Enron.
Not all renowned scholars are always favoured by the public, it just happens.
